History
Glendale is rich in history. It is one of the 25 original Spanish Concessions which were areas in which farmers and ranchers could use the land for herds of cattle, it was commonly known as a grazing land. Jose Verdugo was a corporal in the Spanish Army who received his land from then Governor de Borica. The land was then named Rancho San Rafael after Verdugo took possession in 1784. Throughout the years, Verdugo’s descendants would sell the pieces of the property until 1894 when residents decided to form an official town. In 1906 the town was officially incorporated and then residents decided to annex Tropico in 1918.
