Burbank, California
Real Estate and Community Information

Real estate in Burbank California is always in demand because this bustling city of just over 100,000 maintains a hometown feel. Though it's just 12 miles outside of Los Angeles, many residents feel that this community is quite removed from the metropolis. Nonetheless, it's known as the Media Capital of the World, and many of the people who choose homes for sale here work in the film, television and music industries. With a reputation for great schools and safe streets, it's no surprise that more people are seeking to raise families here.

History

The land now occupied by the city first came under European control when the Spanish government gave land to one of its citizens here in 1784. Many years and many owners later, the parcel of land was purchased by the dentist for whom the city would be named. It was 1867, and he built a ranch for raising sheep. Eventually he sold his land, and people began purchasing town plots in 1887. Agriculture remained a principal industry in Burbank's early years, but other industries, like the movies and aviation, moved in during the early 20th century. Those industries and others still thrive today.

Parks and Recreation

People often choose homes for sale in this city because of its high livability rating. Part of that livability comes from the many community parks. City government operates dozens of parks with facilities like playgrounds, ball fields, performance venues, tennis courts, golf courses and more. For even more fun and community involvement residents can participate in various recreational activities that are organized by the city. Residents will find everything from afterschool programs to swimming classes offered on a continuing basis.

Attractions and Activities

There's always something fun happening in the city's beautiful downtown. It's the main place to enjoy shopping, dining and entertainment. Since television is a prime industry here it's also popular to visit the studios to see a taping. At the Portal of the Folded Wings visitors view a memorial to the area's connection to aviation history. People attend a variety of live performances at the Starlight Bowl, and no one can resist a stop at the famous Bob's Big Boy. Even more of the city's colorful past has been preserved thanks to the historical society.

Events

The year is filled with happenings that include a film festival, an arts festival and a Christmas celebration.
